Q: What is a hidden camera? A: Also called a covert camera, it is a camera hidden in an object (for example, a doll, a clock, etc.) used to film (record on videotape) a subject while he/she has no awareness that a camera is present.
Q: What is a n anny c am?
A: N anny c ams are covert hidden camer a s used by parents to monitor nannies / baby-sitters to know if their children are protected when they are not there. Nanny c ams are us u ally in the shape of dolls, clocks, plants, radios, etc. We can convert many things at your house into n anny c ams. Please feel free to contact us for details.
Q: Should I choose a wired camera or a wireless camera?
A: This really depends on the environment where you are going to use the covert camera. A wired camera must use a cable to connect the camera and the VCR or TV, so it usually has a more stable picture quality because of the direct output to a VCR or TV, and no interference from other electronic devices such as a cordless phone.
If it is possible to use a cable to connect the camera and the VCR or TV at the location where you are going to use your covert camera, you should consider a wired camera. If it is difficult to use a cable to connect the camera to a VCR or a TV, wireless is your choice.
You can also make the decision by considering if you are going to move the camera around or not. If you may need to move the location of the camera, wireless should be your first choice because you can move the camera easily to a different location when needed without the need to run wires between the camera and VCR or TV. However, if you seldom move the camera to different location, you should choose wired type for stable picture quality.
If you're still unsure or still have questions, please call us.
Q: How do wireless cameras work?
A: A wireless camera (with a built-in transmitter) sends the video signal to the receiver. The receiver captures the video signal; then transfers the signal to the connected recorder (VCR) for recording or to a TV for viewing. You can use any home VCR or TVs.
The installation and operation is very simple. What you need to do is just plug and play.
Q:
Should I choose a CCD camera or a CMOS camera?
A: CCD stands for Charge Coupled Device
that has been the dominant solid-state image sensor since
the 1970s. CMOS stands for Complementary
Metal Oxide Semiconductor. These two image sensors
are two different technologies for capturing images digitally.
They have unique strengths and weaknesses that make them appropriate
to different applications.
CCD cameras offer superior image quality at the expense
of size and power consumption. CCD cameras are good
for such applications that require better picture quality
where space and power supply are not a problem.
CMOS cameras are usually smaller than CCD cameras
and consume less power at the expense of image quality.
CMOS camera are well-suited to such applications where image
quality is not so important but space and power supply are
restricted.
Regarding cost, CCD cameras are usually more expensive than
CMOS cameras.
Q: In addition to the wireless camera, what else I need to have?
A: Our standard wireless covert camera is a fully-functioning wireless camera system with everything you need to send the video and signal. It comes with a built-in transmitter, and comes with a 4-channel 2.4 GHz receiver, a video cable (0.8 meter) with RCA connectors for connecting to the VCR or TV, and a power adaptor.
To record the video signal, please connect the receiver to any VCR (or an 8mm video recorder). To view the live video, please connect the receiver to any TV.
Q: In addition to the wired camera, what else do I need to have?
A: Our standard wired covert camera is a fully-functioning wireless camera system with everything you need to send the video signal to a VCR or a TV. It comes with a video cable (0.8 meter) with RCA connectors for connecting to the VCR or TV, and a power adaptor.
To record the video signal, please connect the camera to any VCR (or an 8mm video recorder). To view the live video, please connect the camera to any TV.
Q: What is the transmission range of the wireless cameras?
A: The transmission range of a wireless camera is usually rated by use the LOS (Line of Sight). Standard wireless cameras have a range of about 700 feet LOS. The signal can be transmitted through most solid objects including glass, plastic, wood, fiberglass and some metals, but the signal is attenuated. So the actual transmission range depends on the number and type of objects you are transmitting through, such as brick walls, concrete walls, trees, etc. Our normal 700 feet LOS covert camera can typically transmit signal through about 6 interior walls with ranges up to 300 feet and is designed to work comfortably in a building up to 6,000 square foot (home or office).
Q: I have a 2.4GHz cordless phone, will that be a problem?
A: Yes, it may be a problem because the signal of the 2.4GHz wireless camera may be (but not always) interfered by the 2.4GHz cordless phone or other 2.4GHz devices. If you are not sure whether or not your cordless phone or any other 2.4GHz system in your home or office interferes the wireless camera (cannot get good video signal), please unplug power to your phone etc. to determine if that is the problem.
Q: What is Line of Sight (LOS) which is often used to rate a wireless camera?
A: Line of sight (LOS) means the outdoor transmission distance of a wireless camera in clear, perfect conditions (no walls, trees, or any obstructions). In other words, t here is nothing between the transmitter and receiver, for example building top to building top. Please also refer to the Answer to the Question of "What is the transmission range of the wireless cameras?"
Q: Should I choose a black & white camera or a color camera?
A: Usually black & white has higher resolution, and is good for low light conditions; a color camera gives a more "real" look, and is usually US$50-100 more expensive than black & white type. A standard black & white camera usually has a resolution of 420 horizontal lines, and can work at 0.3 lux (light strength), whereas a color camera usually has a resolution of 380 horizontal lines, and can work at 0.5 lux.
Q: What is a camera's resolution and how is it rated?
A: Resolution is a parameter used to rate camera's clarity which is the number of horizontal video lines transmitted by a camera to reproduce the image. The higher the resolution number, the better the picture quality. Most standard black & white cameras usually have a resolution of 420 horizontal lines, and color cameras a resolution of 380 horizontal lines.
Resolution is important and should be considered when purchasing any surveillance camera equipment, but should not be used as the only quality measurement.
Q: What is lux?
A: Lux is a parameter used to measure a camera's sensitivity to light. The lower the number, the less light it will need to reproduce a clear image . For example: a 0.1 lux camera means it generally has the ability to see an image in a well lit parking lot.
S tandard black & white cameras usually have a 0.1 lux, and color cameras have a 0.5 lux light sensitivity.
Q: Can I use a battery pack to power the wireless camera?
A: Yes, you can. The wireless camera we provide usually comes with a power adaptor, but if you need to use a battery pack, please mention it in your order so we can replace the power adaptor with a rechargeable battery pack. The fully recharged battery pack can power the wireless camera for 3-7 hours.
Q: Can I use a home VCR to record the video signal?
A: Yes, you can use your home VCR. A home VCR usually can record for up to 8 hours on a T160 VHS tape in EP record mode.
If you need to record longer time, please consider a security VCR. Installation and operation of a security VCR is very much like a home normal VCR, and they use the same tapes, but a security VCR can record videos for 24-960 hours.
